Celebrating cultural differences

Mon, Nov 18th, 2024

Sixth Form students delivered a powerful assembly this morning on raising awareness of Worth as a community of different cultures where acceptance and respect permeate through our daily lives.

After an introductory speech, students from France, Poland, Hong Kong, Nigeria and Brazil spoke about their cultural backgrounds, then a prayer of intercessions was read in multiple languages including British, German, Dutch, Croatian, Mandarin and French.

More than 25 different nationalities are represented within the student-body at Worth. Each member of the Worth community brings a life of different experiences and perspectives from which we can all learn.

Introducing the assembly, Deputy Head Girl Charlotte said: “The Worth community is such a diverse mixture of traditions from places across the world, with many of our student cohort, teaching faculty and wider staff coming from far and wide.

“Personally, although leaving Hong Kong to study on the other side of the world was difficult, I feel it has been so beneficial, not only because I now get to share my culture and traditions with my peers, but also because I have the opportunity to learn about so many different cultures from my friends every day.

“It made it easier to leave my home, knowing I had come to such a welcoming and multicultural school environment.”
