Another successful debating season for seniors and juniors was celebrated at the end of term with the presentation of debating ties and pins.
Worth runs a thriving Debating Society which has enjoyed a number of regional, national and international successes, while also growing in numbers. In recent years the School won the Hartland International Debating Competition in 2024 and the Ethics Cup, a national competition, in 2022.
Highlights this year have included reaching the regional finals of the MACE English-Speaking Union Debating Competition for only the second time in the history of the School and winning the Rotary Club competition to qualify for the district semi-finals.
In the final assembly of the Lent Term Mrs Dawn Clubb, who leads debating at Worth, honoured students who represented the School in those competitions as well as the Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition and the Cambridge Schools’ Debating Competition, where our students also did well.
In addition to these external competitions, Worth also hosts an annual House Debating Competition and a successful Alumni Debating Competition.
Mrs Clubb said: “Debating at the senior level has enjoyed great success over the past few years and that is supported by encouraging and building debating in the lower years.”
The benefits of taking part in debating include learning to construct logical arguments, enhanced critical thinking, improved public speaking, strengthened research abilities and developing teamwork skills.
Here are a few pictures from the presentations.
