Maths prize presented

The Perera Prize for the Most Improved Mathematician has been presented to Year 11 student Charlie Ferrario.

This prestigious award was first introduced in 2021 in memory of former Head of Maths, Mr Gordon Perera, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in February 2018 and continued to work at Worth until his death in September 2020.

The trophy was donated by the parents of one of Mr Perera’s former students at Worth and the inscription reads: “The Perera Prize for Most Improved Mathematician. In memory of Gordon Perera, Head of Maths, Worth School, whose love of maths and courage inspired many.”

Charlie, who is pictured receiving his prize from current Head of Maths Mrs Danielle Gwynne, was chosen from many excellent candidates who have pushed themselves to new levels under the inspiring teaching of our Maths department.
