Record-breaking year for charitable work

Tue, Jun 9th, 2026

A record-breaking year for charity fundraising by Houses has ended with the boys of Rutherford House winning the Caritas Shield for a third year in succession.

Each year at Worth every House nominates a charity which they raise money for and this year the Houses have raised £15,500 between them which smashes the previous record of £12,000. This is in addition to whole-school fundraising for charity.

The Caritas Shield is awarded at Worth to the House that has shown the most endeavour in charitable activities during the year. This is not just based on the amount of money they raise but is calculated by a variety of factors which also includes service and community merits, events run and whole House participation. Caritas is the Latin word for charity.

Rutherford, whose House charity is Movember, were the winners of the Caritas Shield again, with St Bede’s House second and Gervase third. Well done to students in all Houses for their efforts this year.

Serving others is an important part of the education we provide at Worth. This supports our mission to develop the whole person.
